Seeds 4 Success

Annapolis / Eastport, MD

SladeChild sponsors an after school program for children who struggle with reading and math assignments. This volunteer program is held in a local community center in an Annapolis low-income public housing community. The program offers 1:1 tutoring and mentoring for children in grades 3-8.  The origin of the program was neighbors’ concerns about escalating crime in nearby public housing communities and the well-being of the children living there. Children are referred by school counselors, the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (HACA), or caregivers. These mentoring programs are a model for how community service can lift up a neighborhood. See s4sannapolis.org to see further details.
